We’re posting here a link to another video clip by Mike Lee, this one from the Aylsham Show 2009.

Here is what Mike said about the YouTube video and the longer DVD …

“Just a quick note to share with you a really fun day at the Aylsham Show 2009. If you like the country life, check out the carriage riding, fancy dress, high-standard livestock competition, and tractors. Here is a quick YouTube sample from my new 1-hour, 50-minute DVD and video on demand.”

If you’d like more information about ordering the DVD or the video-on-demand, you can contact Mike directly at mikeleenews@mac.com.

I know this is ridden dressage and not driven, but anyone who admires good dressage riding even a little bit needs to watch this horse.

Dutch rider Edward Gal and the nine-year-old Moorlands Totilas (a black Dutch Warmblood stallion) performed this amazing dressage freestyle test at last week’s Alltech FEI European Dressage and Show Jumping Championships in Windsor, England. And for their effort, they received an unheard-of score of 90.75% … a new world record.

Enjoy!

We’ve done it again: added yet one more new-fangled technological advance to our growing array of communications tools.

The CAA is now on Facebook!

If you already have a Facebook account (or if you want to sign up for one), we hope you’ll become a “fan” of the Carriage Association of America. Our new page will feature periodic updates about what’s going on within the association and the office, and we also plan to post a few photos of the CAA’s headquarters building, the library, the shop, etc.

You can become a Facebook “fan” of the CAA in a couple of ways.

First, log in to your Facebook account.

Then, just click on the link at the top right of this very page and click the “become a fan” button.

Or, if you are already Facebook “friends” with either Jill or me, we will probably be sending you a “fan page” suggestion.

Our hope is that with all of these new Internet tools, you can keep up with the CAA however you prefer. You can read our (nearly) daily blog posts here, get our weekly e-newsletter in your e-mail inbox, follow us on Twitter (or read our most recent tweets here), and … now … see what the CAA is doing via Facebook.

It was quite chilly here this morning … sweater weather, almost. Once things warmed up to daytime temperature, the skies were a beautiful autumnal blue, the sun was shining, and the thermometer (well, weather.com) registered in the low 70s. Delightful.

One of our local weathermen* said this morning that this “cold air” was about a month early. Soooo … let’s all keep our fingers crossed that we get this gorgeous weather or something very similar (and neither drought nor too much rain nor ridiculous heat) this time next month, for the Lexington Combined Driving Classic and the National Drive (also here at the KHP, the weekend after the CDE, and hosting CAA Driver Proficiency Program evaluations).

*Bill … the geeky one. And I mean this in a very good way. I think meteorologists should geek out over the weather and not just report it. Weatherman Bill gets visibly excited about weather patterns and events; he presents Weather 101 classes to local school kids; and he has a blog where he can (and does) talk at length about the weather.

This new KHP marathon obstacle appears to be in a more nearly-finished state than the “hill” illustrated last week. We’ll check back on the progress of the hill later this week. This new obstacle is in the area known here as the “in-field” … that area surrounded by the KHP’s permanent steeplechase course. The reflection at the base of this obstacle is more water so this one, too, will incorporate a splash.

Stay tuned for more updates on the evolving marathon course.
