In this photo, three men, who look like they’re wearing uniforms of some sort, sit in a carriage and a fourth man stands beside it. Are they merely posing for a photo? Are they headed to a parade? And what is the near-side, back-seat passenger holding?! (It looks like a light-saber, but I know that can’t be right …)

I have three more photos to share from the small batch I purchased on Saturday in Paris (Kentucky). In this one, two ladies pose for a photo in their runabout-type buggy and one of them holds an umbrella. Their horse appears to be a bit on the shy side.

On Saturday, A.J. and I visited a couple of antiques stores in nearby Paris, Kentucky. At one of them, I found a small collection of amusing photos with horses (and “horses”) and carriages. The shopkeeper said that the photos were all from a local family, and they appear to date from the early twentieth century.

The first two of the five we purchased show a “tandem” with three people in the carriage, and a big group of people posing for a photo in and around a carriage …

This time last week, the participants in our third annual Carriage Festival (drivers, grooms, helpers, horses, and ponies) were packing up, enjoying the awards party, getting baths, and heading home.

Next year’s CAA Carriage Festival will be June 27-29, 2014, again in the Kentucky Horse Park’s Alltech Arena. We hope to see you then, either here on the blog or in person!

Continuing on from yesterday’s post, here are the rest of my Sunday-morning-drive photos …
