And the horsepower that pulled all those ice wagons? I assume that these are the horses in question, as this photo looks like it came from the same collection as yesterday’s ice wagons.

Today, a rare opportunity to compare several vehicles from the same commercial fleet:

And, today, a photo of America’s (most?) famous coachman, Alfred G. Vanderbilt … in front of London’s Hotel Metropole:

We’re busy here in the CAA office this week. Rather ridiculously busy, in fact. So to save time, I’m simply going to post some more wonderful old photos for the next several days. Besides, I love seeing all these old photos, and I gather that many of you do, too. Enjoy!

This first photo has a really big house, a big stagecoach-looking vehicle, six horses, and quite a lot of people … but no accompanying information. So we can each make up our own story about what’s going on here!

Kathy Dubit wrote to say how much she’s been enjoying the old photos from the Days’ collection.

“Then,” she said, “I received the Annual Report from the school I attended from kindergarten through twelfth grade.”

The school (now called Doane Academy, but then called St. Mary’s Hall) is in Burlington, New Jersey, and it’s celebrating its 175th anniversary in 2012. The report included this wonderful picture of students in front of the school, circa 1904–05.
