This past weekend, Jill’s sister, Elizabeth; CAA member Jack Pemberton; and the CAA’s immediate past president, Harvey Waller, and his family, joined members of Europe’s Private Driving Club for a series of drives through the Dutch countryside. Embedded here are a few videos from Sunday morning.

Accompanied by the sound of hunting horns, coaches begin to arrive for Sunday morning’s drive:

A walk-around and a closer look at some of the coaches:

The first few coaches leaving for Sunday morning’s drive, after enjoyin a cup of coffee:

… this one shot in Barcelona in 1908.

Again, the sheer number of people, bicycles, cars, and horse-drawn vehicles crossing closely in front of, or racing with the streetcar is amazing to see.

And, as a special treat while we’re in Spain …

Footage of the Sevilla Feria from 1920:

I’ve posted a link to this video before (back in January), but that was before I knew how to embed videos, so it should be easier for you to watch it this time. And … bonus! … this one is longer than the one I first posted a link to.

A camera mounted on the front of a San Francisco streetcar captured this footage just a few days, apparently, before the 1906 earthquake.

Try not to flinch when people, cars, and horse-drawn vehicles cross right in front of the streetcar!

Note: there are some serious tracking issues at the start of this (long!) video, but if you wait through it or skip to the 1:28 mark, it settles back down. Enjoy!

This video features a Marilyn Monroe moment, long before anyone would’ve known what that meant! But it also has some nice old footage of several horse-drawn vehicles. Enjoy. 🙂

… and here’s another fascinating look, from even longer ago.
