CAA Carriage Festival

Now that I’m able to download photos from my camera (onto a flash drive onto my laptop) and copy them onto my computer, I can post the photos from yesterday!

First, a view of the front of the Alltech Arena, where the show will take place, starting tomorrow morning:

And then: a view of the “calm before the storm” in the Miller Barn, which is just behind the arena, and a few local early birds starting to move supplies in …

There’s nothing quite like starting off a big, multi-day project (in this case, our CAA Carriage Classic pleasure-driving show) with computer problems!

Only a few people have arrived for the show, which starts Friday and goes through Sunday, so there wasn’t a whole lot of activity today in the CAA barn. But I did manage to take a few photos to share with you.

And now my camera and my computer have decided that they aren’t on speaking terms anymore.

I will post today’s photos early tomorrow, I promise.

In the meantime, here’s a cell-phone photo of the front of the (indoor) Alltech Arena, where the show will take place:

… is this week!!

If you find yourself in or near Lexington, Kentucky, this weekend: Come on out to the Kentucky Horse Park’s (indoor, air-conditioned!) Alltech Arena to see some beautiful horses, ponies, and carriages. More than fifty entries will be competing in the inaugural CAA Carriage Classic, which will feature a wide variety of classes.

Here’s the most up-to-date schedule for our pleasure-driving show. If you want to keep up with what’s happening, and see photos — or if you’re not sure what some of these classes are — be sure to stay tuned to the blog. I’ll be posting updates daily, if not more often, from Wednesday (tomorrow!) through Sunday.

The Friday-morning session (starting at 10:00 a.m., July 1) will feature three classes: Single Horse Reinsmanship, Very Small Equine (VSE) Reinsmanship, and Single Pony Reinsmanship.

The Friday-afternoon session (starting at 12:30 p.m., July 1) will feature nine classes: Single Horse Progressive Obstacle, Single Pony Progressive Obstacle, Utility Vehicle Working, VSE Turnout, Pair Horse Reinsmanship, Pair Pony Turnout, Pair Horse Turnout, Pair Pony Reinsmanship, and Junior Reinsmanship.

The Friday-evening session (starting at 6:30 p.m., July 1) will feature five classes: Single Horse Turnout, Park Division: Evening Turnout, Single Pony Turnout, Coaching Turnout, and Coaching Reinsmanship.

The Saturday-morning session (starting at 9:00 a.m., July 2) will feature six classes: Pair Horse Fault-and-Out Obstacle, Pair Pony Fault-and-Out Obstacle, Utility Vehicle Fault-and-Out Obstacle, Multiple Horse or Pony Turnout, Junior Turnout, and “Old Guard” Working.

The Saturday-afternoon session (starting at 12:30 p.m., July 2) will feature seven classes: Tandem Horse or Pony Fault-and-Out Obstacles, VSE Fault-and-Out Obstacles, Junior Fault-and-Out Obstacles, Utility Vehicle Reinsmanship, Tandem Horse or Pony Reinsmanship, Park Division: Afternoon Turnout, and Multiple Horse or Pony Reinsmanship.

The Saturday-evening session (starting at 7:00 p.m., July 2) will feature five classes: Multiple Horse or Pony Fault-and-Out Obstacles, Coaching: Best Team, Park Division: Performance, Carriage Dogs, and Fancy Dress / Costume.

Sunday morning (starting at 10:00 a.m.) will feature a “presentation pleasure drive” (a carriage parade of sorts) through the KY Horse Park. An awards luncheon will follow the drive.

We hope you’ll join us, either in person or here on the blog!

Starting three weeks from tomorrow, here at the Kentucky Horse Park (in the *air-conditioned* indoor arena), is the CAA’s first-ever pleasure-driving show.

If you won’t be here with us for the show (July 1 to 3), you will, of course, be able to follow all the action here on the blog and on the CAA’s Facebook page.

In the meantime, I wanted to share this lovely old print with you. I’m in the process of creating a commemorative poster for the driving show, and this image was one of the finalists but was, ultimately, rejected. But I think it’s too nice not to share.
