On this Memorial Day, let’s take a quick look at an unusual yet fascinating horse sport that (in theory, at least) was inspired by horseback military maneuvers.
A.J. and I spent part of an afternoon at the Royal Windsor Horse Show watching tent-pegging. He was enthralled, actually. And he’s promised to write a guest blog post about our afternoon and about this obscure sport.
As a small preview, here are a couple of photos …

If you would like to learn more about this ‘obscure sport’, why not take a look at http://www.sussexpeggers.com and/or come along to Ditchling Common Stud Riding School where it is taught – http://www.ditchlingcommonstud.co.uk? We are always looking to promote the sport and would love to meet you!

The sport was opened up to civilian riders in the UK about 20 years ago. It is great fun and improves one’s riding no end. A British Horse Society Riding Club (Sussex Peggers – http://www.sussexpeggers.com) was formed in 2009 for the purpose of developing and promoting the sport in the UK and overseas. To this end, we would welcome contact from people in the USA who would like to learn more about the sport, it’s history, etc.

Did anyone in the USA ever reply to the post of June 11 2013? Has anyone in the USA taken up the wonderful sport of mounted skill-at-arms, one discipline of which is tentpegging? If they have, would you please let me have the appropriate contact details?
